A d-tan facial is a brightening treatment aimed at the uneven, dulled look skin takes on after a lot of sun. In a Sydney summer that is most of us — the face, neck, forearms and the back of the neck catch far more sun than we intend them to.

The treatment works on how your skin looks: lifting dead surface cells, evening out the tone and bringing back some of the brightness that sun exposure flattens. It is a cosmetic facial, not a medical one. It does not treat pigmentation conditions, and anyone at BGS who tells you otherwise would be overselling it.

Who it suits

It suits skin that looks tanned, patchy or tired — particularly a face that no longer matches the rest of you, or a neck and jawline that have caught the worst of it. It is a popular booking before a wedding, a function or a big photograph.

If your skin is broken, sunburnt, actively irritated, or you are being treated for a skin condition, tell us before booking. We will ask you to wait until it has settled rather than working on inflamed skin.

What happens in the appointment

Your therapist starts by cleansing and looking at your skin, and asking what it normally does — whether it is dry, oily, reactive or sensitive to particular products.

The treatment then runs through cleansing, gentle exfoliation to lift dulled surface skin, the brightening treatment itself, and a finishing massage with moisturiser and protection. Most people find it relaxing rather than uncomfortable; if anything stings or feels too warm, say so and your therapist will adjust immediately.

You may look slightly flushed for a short time afterwards. That settles.

Afterwards, and how to keep the result

Sunscreen is the entire game. A d-tan facial improves how your skin looks today; sun exposure over the following weeks is what undoes it. Wearing SPF daily will do more for the result than any product we could sell you.

For a day or two afterwards, keep it simple — skip harsh scrubs, strong actives and long hot showers on the face, and let the skin settle.

Results build with repetition rather than arriving all at once. If you have a date in mind for an event, book with time to spare rather than the day before.
